Congress on Wednesday released its third list of 40 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. The party has fielded party MP Randeep Surjewala's son Aditya Surjewala from the Kaithal seat.

With this list, the Congress has declared a total of 81 candidates for elections to the 90-member Assembly slated to take place on October 5.

However, the party is yet to declare candidates for the nine seats of Ambala Cantt, Panipat Rural, Tigaon, Sohna, Narwana, Bhiwani, Rania, Narnaund, and Uklana, where the selection process is still underway,.

Despite having initially planned to announce candidates for 49 seats, the Congress has delayed finalising the remaining nine, fearing potential backlash or controversy.

Thursday is the last day for filing nominations for the polls.
