Galaxy Store will require a Samsung account for app downloads

Currently, you don’t need a Samsung account to use Galaxy phones. You can even get apps and updates from the Galaxy Store without having to log in. However, that’s about to change, as the company will force you to create a Samsung account for Galaxy Store downloads.

For some time, the South Korean giant has wanted all Galaxy device users to create an account on its platform. For a while now, One UI users have reported some annoying measures like pop-ups over opened apps. Currently, the Galaxy Store prompts you to create an account the first time you log in. However, you can skip this step for 14 days if you wish.

That said, the latest Galaxy Store app update is showing a notice to users of the company’s devices. “New service requirement: To use Galaxy Store services such as installing, downloading, and updating apps, you must be logged in to your Samsung account,” the notification reads. The change will take effect on September 25, according to the company. The new policy can be annoying since the Galaxy Store has always allowed you to download apps and updates without a Samsung account.

It’s noteworthy that Galaxy users get the vast majority of their apps from the Play Store. The change in the company’s policies will not affect the use of Google’s app store at all. However, Samsung uses the Galaxy Store to send updates to its own apps. So, losing access to the company’s app store means not receiving new features and improvements in several of its services.

The notification is appearing to users after installing the latest Galaxy Store 6.6.13.10 update. It is unknown why Samsung now requires creating an account on its platform to use its app store. However, if you want to avoid losing access, it is best to do so as soon as possible.
