The two-ingredient £1 shower door hack that will leave glass crystal clear
by Sophie Buchan · Wales OnlineIf your shower door is dirty and despite cleaning it, it never seems clean, then this little hack could stop that issue for good. And in even better news, it won't cost you more than £1.
In a surprising cleaning hack shared by Funeral Guide, the humble, age-old combination of white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda holds the key to sparkling results and it’s incredibly affordable. You can pick up a 568ml bottle of white vinegar from shops like Tesco for just 35p, while a 200g tub of baking soda costs only 65p. For as little as £1, these kitchen cupboard essentials can transform your shower glass with minimal effort.
“People often overlook the potential of everyday items lurking in their kitchen cupboards,” says Funeral Guide, explaining that "vinegar’s natural acidity cuts through limescale and soap scum, while bicarbonate of soda’s gentle abrasiveness ensures you won't damage the glass”.
How do I get clean shower doors?
- Start by mixing one part white vinegar with one part warm water in a spray bottle
- Lightly spray the solution over your shower door, ensuring all the glass is covered
- Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes to work its magic
- Meanwhile, create a paste by mixing two tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with just enough water to form a thick, spreadable consistency
- With a soft sponge, use the paste to gently scrub the glass in circular motions. The natural fizzing reaction between the vinegar residue and the bicarbonate will lift away stubborn deposits, leaving your shower door clearer than ever
- After scrubbing, rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue.
- To finish, wipe the glass dry with a microfiber cloth or squeegee.
If you want some added shine, buff with a dry, lint-free cloth and your doors will look so sparkling clean you think a professional had done it. “The beauty of this method is in its simplicity" says the experts saying that not only is it "effective" but it's also "environmentally friendly, and saves you from harsh chemicals found in many commercial products."
