Will Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta be watching Liverpool vs Man City Premier League clash?
by Lee Wilmot · football.londonMikel Arteta will be like the rest of us on Sunday afternoon - sat in front of the television watching Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Premier League.
It is a huge game in the Premier League title race on Sunday as City, without a win in six games in all competitions, travel to Anfield to take on current runaway league leaders Liverpool. It could make or break Pep Guardiola's side's title chances.
They find themselves eight points adrift of the Reds just 12 games into the season, with Arne Slot masterminding an impressive start in his first season in charge. Lose and Guardiola could kiss goodbye to a fifth straight title as early as December.
Arsenal will be watching on with interest. Following the game with West Ham United, the Gunners are six points adrift of Liverpool in the title race.
The Gunners themselves went through a difficult period, failing to win any of their previous four Premier League matches before beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 last weekend.
And even though managers will tell you they do not look at the table this early on in the season and that they focus on their own teams and their results, Arteta will not be able to help himself avoiding the game at Anfield on Sunday.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with the Hammers, Arteta was asked if he would be watching the Liverpool versus Man City match. "100%," he replied. "It’s a big match, a beautiful match to watch. Two of the best teams in Europe facing each other. So it’s a big one."
But Arteta would not be drawn on who he wanted to win, although you must imagine it is City. When asked if he had a preference on who he wanted to win he responded: "Yeah, Arsenal tomorrow. That’s the preference. We will see. It’s something that we cannot control."
