Graham Potter - New role, net worth, 'turning down' Leicester City, huge Chelsea sack pay-off
by Matty Hewitt, Isaac Johnson · football.londonGraham Potter is back on our screens this evening as he appears as a guest panellist on Amazon Prime's Premier League coverage of Leicester City vs West Ham United.
Until recently, the English manager has stayed out of the limelight since being axed by Chelsea in April 2023, just months into a five-year deal. He has however, been linked with a number of jobs since then, but is yet to take on a new role since his departure from Stamford Bridge.
The 49-year-old has declared he's ready to jump back into football management, once again, following a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Here, football.london breaks down all you need to know about Potter as he eyes a return to the big time - with more to come following his much-anticipated Amazon Prime appearance.
Chelsea compensation package
Potter was shown the door by Todd Boehly just seven months into his five-year deal - having won just 12 of his 31 matches. His contract was worth around £50million, albeit it's thought a settlement was agreed for the club not to have to dish out all of that money to get rid of him.
The Guardian reported that Potter would receive a sizable pay-out of around £13million, having seen Chelsea fork out a record £21million release fee to prise him away from Brighton in the first place. Chelsea paid Potter his contracted salary - reportedly £200,000 a week - for the 18 months after his dismissal.
New TV role on Amazon Prime
Potter has re-emerged in the public domain over the last couple of months as a pundit for Sky Sports and now Amazon Prime. His last appearance on our screens was for Sky where he analysed Southampton's visit to Bournemouth in an all-south coast showdown, having spent more than two years close by with Brighton, before taking the Chelsea job.
Job interviews and 'turning down' Leicester City
Potter has been linked with several jobs during his time away from the game, such as OGC Nice and Manchester United; both owned by Ineos supremo Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Amid Gareth Southgate's resignation as England manager, Potter was also namedropped as a potential successor there, too. However, it is Thomas Tuchel who will take the Three Lions job.
Interestingly, Potter is said to have turned down the opportunity to take over at Leicester City last summer, prior to them appointing Enzo Maresca as boss. The former Blues boss was tentatively linked with the role again in recent weeks, before Ruud van Nistelrooy was unveiled as Foxes' boss.
Net worth and personal life
Married to Rachel with three sons, Potter opened up on his time spent with family and what he's been doing in an interview with The Telegraph. He revealed how he met with England Rugby head coach Steve Borthwick and did a leadership talk in the Falklands, having also visited the USA to watch several American sports.
He even went to a Taylor Swift concert with his 14-year-old son, admitting: "He's not as much of a fan as me!" There is not much information regarding his net worth, with a speculative website putting it at around £2.5million.
