Paul Pogba launches savage attack on Man Utd rival - 'I will say they are better'
Tottenham have already got one over on Manchester United this season and Paul Pogba has been quizzed on whether the north Londoners are now the better outfit - but he's hit back
by Samuel Meade · The MirrorPaul Pogba has laughed off the idea that Tottenham are better than Manchester United - citing their trophy record.
The former Red Devil was taking part in a video call where fans were able to phone in and pose questions with one fan suggesting the north Londoners were now a superior outfit.
Tottenham finished above the Manchester outfit last term and hammered them 3-0 earlier this season at Old Trafford. Pogba though has been keen to remind the fan that Erik ten Hag, prior to his dismissal, delivered the FA Cup last season whilst the trophy cabinet in the capital remains empty.
The year prior to that United claimed the Carabao Cup, seeing off Newcastle in the final at Wembley. Tottenham have continued to challenge for the top four but haven't landed the silverware they so crave.
Pogba said: “When you win a trophy.. in the last two years I think Man United won a trophy.. a cup at least. When you do that you call back and I will say Tottenham is better.”
Tottenham's last trophy came in 2008 when they landed the Carling Cup - now known as the Carabao Cup. They've missed out in several finals and semi-finals since then - losing to the Manchester outfit in the last four of the FA Cup back in 2018. Pogba himself claimed three trophies during his time in Manchester before leaving when his contract expired in 2022.
Tottenham have hired some big name managers in recent years - the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte - in an effort to eventually end their drought, but they've been unable to deliver.
Ange Postecoglou is currently the man in the dugout and has talked up his record of winning trophies in his second seasons at clubs. The Australian has just embarked on his second campaign with Tottenham still in the hunt for several honours.
During a pre-season interview Postecoglou said "usually in my second season I win things". He told Sky Sports recently: "I'll correct myself - I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year. Nothing's changed. I've said it now. I don't say things unless I believe them."
