Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy have become one of Britain's most beloved celebrity couples in recent years, and with good reason.

Their down-to-earth charm and silly sense of humour have captured the hearts of a nation ever since they started dating. As a former England, Liverpool and Tottenham striker, Crouch, 43, has been captivating the public for years with his lovable quirkiness, though Clancy, 38, has proven every bit as charismatic since starring alongside Peter in their podcast The Therapy Crouch.

The pair met in 2005 during Crouch's stint at Anfield and began dating shortly after. They tied the knot in 2011, a few months after the birth of their first child, Sophia. Three more kids have followed since; Liberty (born in 2015), Johnny (in 2018) and Jack (in 2019).

The six of them live in a lavish £3million Surrey mansion with their dog and two cats. The property features a swimming pool, a cinema room and a garden (rather aptly) fit for a giant.

"We couldn't buy houses that we wanted because Pete couldn't fit through the door," fashion model Clancy once joked while speaking to ITV, referencing her husband's towering 6ft 7in frame. Crouch, who also hosts That Peter Crouch Podcast alongside former team-mate Steve Sidwell, is one of the tallest footballers to ever play in the Premier League, and while his atypical height didn't blight him professionally, it initially threatened to do so romantically.

Robot goal celebration aside, arguably the most iconic Crouchism came in the form of a memorable quip when the ex-Three Lions ace was asked what he'd be if he wasn't a footballer. "A virgin," was his response.

On the subject of sex, Peter and Abbey have been strikingly open about the intimate details of their marriage. Speaking on their podcast, Abbey claimed that Peter sends her three 'sexual' emojis when he's trying to get lucky.

"If the kids go to school and he hears me like, put the key in the door I’m in and no one’s in the house, I just get a beaver and an aubergine emoji text," she explained, before insisting the third emoji was too obscene to discuss on air. "I’m not even gonna say the last one but you can imagine what it is."

She later offered a hint. "It’s got a bit of hydration in there. How vile is that? Am I supposed to go, 'Oh yeah, now I’m bang up for it'."

Sexting aside, their relationship has had its share of sexual hiccups too. Clancy imposed a sex ban while she was pregnant with their fourth child, Jack. "When I got pregnant with Jack we hated each other, we didn't even have sex," she told Love Magazine.

On The Therapy Crouch podcast, Peter also claimed he's been "kicked out of bed" a few times, though Abbey joked he usually had no one to blame but himself. Having previous told a story about how Peter would put his pyjamas on after an argument, indicating that sex was off the table, Abbey said: "Pete punishes me by putting the pyjamas on... which is just pathetic.

"Even if we're not talking, I'd prefer Pete to be in bed with me because I don't like sleeping on my own." She also claimed he refuses to apologise, adding: "I would love a mature argument - I can't stand carrying it on for days... I can honestly say in 20 years, I can count on my fingers - on one hand - the amount of times you’ve said sorry."

The couple have nearly 15 years of marital happiness to look back on, though the strength of their relationship was significantly tested when Crouch was accused of infidelity. In 2010, the former footballer was alleged to have paid for a prostitute on a stag weekend in Madrid while Clancy was pregnant with their first child, Sophia.

They managed to move on from the claims and put the sour incident behind them, and were married three months after Sophia was born. Speaking about the scandal in 2014, Abbey said: "It was horrendous. For any woman who is pregnant or had a baby, it’s tough.

"It was just one of those things," she added, before labelling Peter "my best friend". Continuing, she said: "He makes me laugh, he's kind, generous and the most incredible dad. I'm so proud of him."

Crouch spent just shy of two decades in English football. He played for Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Southampton, Liverpool, Tottenham, Stoke and Burnley, and earned 42 caps for England, scoring 22 goals. He announced his retirement in 2019 aged 38, with 777 senior games and 227 goals under his belt.
