Girona are set to dive into the deep end for their first-ever European competition, facing a daunting away fixture against Paris Saint-Germain to kick off their Champions League campaign.

In their relatively short history, Girona have only spent five seasons in Spain's top flight. However, they now find themselves competing among Europe's elite after securing an impressive third-place finish in La Liga last season.

The summer transfer window saw Girona lose two key players: Artem Dovbyk to Roma and Alex Garcia to Leverkusen. Despite these departures, manager Michel has been active in the transfer market, assembling a squad he believes is capable of competing on both domestic and European fronts.

Girona travel to Paris buoyed by recent victories over Osasuna and Sevilla, but they are well aware that PSG represents a significantly tougher challenge. The French giants reached the Champions League semi-finals last season and have long been chasing the elusive European Cup.

PSG's ambitious project has seen them spend lavishly on superstars like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi in recent years. However, despite these high-profile signings, the coveted Champions League trophy has remained out of reach. With all three stars now departed, the club's Qatari owners are counting on new manager Luis Enrique to mount another serious challenge for European glory.
