BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans make same results complaint as they slam 'British public'

by · Manchester Evening News

Fans were quick to issue the same complaint about the latest results on Strictly Come Dancing as they slammed the 'British public'. The hit BBC One dance contest reached its quarter-final stage over the weekend.

The live show on Saturday night (November 30) also marked Strictly's Musicals Week, the last special of the 2024 series ahead of the grand final in just a couple of weeks time, and it saw the six remaining couples performing to a song from a well-known stage show with the choices this year including Wicked, Mary Poppins and West Side Story.

It was JLS star JB Gill and his professional partner Lauren Oakley who topped the Strictly scoreboard with an almost perfect score of 39. The pair performed a Viennese waltz to Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins, with the duo hugging at its conclusion.

Judge Anton Du Beke said of the performance: “I remember in 2014, I danced this number with the wonderful Judy Murray at Blackpool, and you were almost as good as that. We got voted off that night, but I don’t think that will happen to you. You were practically perfect in every possible way, the best dance of the night."

However, finishing bottom of the rankings were reality TV star Pete Wicks and professional partner Jowita Przystal, who scored 26 out of a possible 40 for their waltz to Somewhere from West Side Story, with Pete saying "I’m so sorry" to Jowita after finishing the routine, in which they portrayed Tony and Maria.

But it was Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe who found themselves in the dreaded dance-off for a third week in a row, this time opposite Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec who last weekend scored the first perferfect 40 of Strictly's 20th-anniversary series.

Both couples performed their dances from Saturday night for a second time, with Montell and Johannes performing their Rumba to I’m Here from the musical The Color Purple before Tasha and Aljaž performed their Argentine Tango to Ex-Wives from Six. on Sunday’s results show (December 1).

After they reprised their performances, the judges unanimously decided to save Tasha and Aljaz, sending Montell and Johannes home just before the semi-final next weekend.

When asked by Tess about her professional dance partner Johannes, Montell said: "He [Johannes] has been amazing. Strictly has touched me in ways I never knew possible. I’m an Olympian and a Gladiator, but I have honestly struggled with confidence my whole life and being on the show, with the beautiful crew, the judges, the cast has just been such an honour."

Following the news, Strictly fans were quick to lash out at those voting. @RyanTheSoapking said: "Another example of the public voting for their favourites from an "Entertainment" perspective and not from how good or bad they are at dancing. As we get closer to the end it's clear now who the favourites are and that isn't always the better dancers.

@nancyswheeIer commented: "What a disgrace but we know the british public are misogynistic…neither deserved to be in the dance off." @shayv3rid3 echoed: "The misogynistic british public strikes again." @mo_theurer posted: "The great British public show themselves up once again jeezo." @Evelynsmin added: "The British public genuinely have an issue with young talented women… like do you guys understand how insane it is that these 2 were anywhere close to the dance off? Shameful #strictly."
