Joe Lewis has slaughtered 'overweight' Kris Boyd as the former Aberdeen stopper aimed a cheeky jibe at the Rangers hero.
Lewis, 37, officially hung up his gloves last month after leaving the Pittodrie club in 2023, but will take part in the Masters Football six-a-side tournament at the P+J Live in Aberdeen on Thursday, November 14. Lewis will line up alongside former Dons stars Russell Anderson, Eoin Jess, Kevin McNaughton, Derek Young, Jonny Hayes, Gavin Rae & Lee Miller as they do battle with veterans of Celtic, Dundee United and Rangers, the latter of which will feature ex-striker Boyd.
Lewis and Boyd played against each other during the latter's second stint at Kilmarnock between 2016 and 2019. They have since enjoyed a healthy rivalry in the punditry box when Aberdeen and Rangers have faced off in recent seasons, with Englishman Lewis poking fun at the Ibrox hero's expense after Jimmy Thelin's Reds recorded a 2-1 victory against the Light Blues at Pittodrie last Wednesday to open up a nine point gap over Philippe Clement's troops in second place in the Premiership.
And the former goalkeeper has jokingly mocked Boyd again ahead of the Masters showdown next week, suggesting that fitness was never the goal machine's strong point during his playing career Speaking to The Press and Journal, he said: "I was trying to not mention it (at Pittodrie)! Boydy was a very good player.
"But Boydy was overweight when he played, and he’s only a little bit more overweight now… so it won’t make a massive difference! He’ll be looking to score past me, no doubt. He’d thoroughly enjoy that, and I’ll be doing my best to shut him up."
