Scotland to be hotter than Ibiza as temperatures sizzle at 25C before storm hits

Parts across the Scottish Highlands will see the best of the weather on Wednesday, which comes as storms across Europe continue to wreak havoc.

Scots will want to get the suncream at the ready as parts of the country are to bask in heatwave temperatures, before grim conditions hit next week.

Certain areas can expect to see more warm weather of up to 25C, making it hotter than Ibiza's current forecast. Parts across the central belt and north into the Scottish Highlands will see the best of the weather on Wednesday (September 18) with highs of around 22C in Glasgow and Stirling also enjoying warmer temperatures at around 21C.

According to the latest reports, the cloud has shifted from Shetland leaving plenty of sunshine across the country to come amid a spike in heat to break up the colder weather. Google weather reports Ibiza only reaching 21C today, following stormy weather across Europe that is wreaking havoc.

BBC Scotland meteorologist Joy Dunlop stated: "Plenty of sunshine across the country with some coastal fog developing in the borders. Feeling warm in the sun, with temperatures peaking 23C, 24C and even 25C, with light east and southerly winds.

"Tonight staying dry for most with clear skies as the cloud will push into the western isles and down the east coast overnight."

Edinburgh will be slightly cooler at a high of 19C throughout the peak of the day at 4pm, with Dundee sitting at the cooler end of the scale at 17C. Fort William will enjoy a wave of heat at a high of 23C, with Inverness sitting at 21C.

It will be a chilly night in some places as temperatures are expected to drop to below 10C. Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dumfries will have a cool night at 7C with slightly warmer temperatures north of the central belt at 9C in the Highlands.

It comes ahead of stormy weather predicted for next week, so Scots are encouraged to make the most of the warmer climate whilst it lasts.

Separate forecasts anticipate a ferocious storm is set to batter the country with gale force winds and torrential downpours. This is due to a wild jet stream that is expected to hit the UK, making for unsettling conditions.

Fresh weather maps show that for Scotland, wet and windy conditions will begin on Wednesday (September 25) showing up to 38mm of precipitation will move in from the west before the rain becomes even heavier by the end of day on Thursday (September 26). By then, rain is set to peak at 47mm with, the highest downpour to hit the west coast.

This will be accompanied by violent gusts of wind, reaching up to 54mph by Thursday which will worsen as the week goes on.

WX Charts data indicates that the stormy weather will gradually intensify over the September weekend before reaching a staggering 93mm accumulation of rain on Tuesday (October 1) with maximum gale force winds reaching up to 64mph.
