BJP aims for single-party rule with 'One Nation, One Election' push, alleges Jharkhand CM

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has voiced his strong opposition to the recently approved 'one nation, one election' proposal, asserting that it indicates the BJP's ambition for single-party control over the nation and the states.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed strong opposition to the recently approved 'one nation, one election' proposal, claiming it reflects the BJP's desire for a single-party dominance over both the country and the states. His comments came shortly after the Union Cabinet endorsed the proposal, which seeks to synchronise elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

During a government function in Jamtara district, Soren stated, "I just learned that the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for 'one nation, one election.' Now, they (BJP) want only one party to rule this country and maintain a single government at every level. There will be no other government."

Soren further accused the BJP of undermining communal harmony and expressed concerns over its long-term intentions. "These people, who disrupt communal harmony, always want to rule," he added.

The Union Cabinet's approval follows recommendations made by a high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the approval, emphasising the committee's plan for simultaneous elections, starting with the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, and later synchronising local body polls within 100 days.

The committee also proposed the establishment of an 'Implementation Group' tasked with executing its recommendations. Additionally, it recommended the Election Commission of India work with state election authorities to create a common electoral roll and voter ID cards.
