NYPD Continuing High Security Alert Over Simchas Torah
The NYPD is continuing their high security alert on the holiday of Sukkos, including Chol Hamoed and Simchas Torah, due to the situation in Israel and the US and the upcoming Hebrew date anniversary of October 7.

As we approach the first Hebrew anniversary of the Simchas Torah attack by Hamas in Israel, the NYPD remains on high alert.
The NYPD and the counterterrorist unit will be on high alert throughout the Sukkos and Simchas Torah holidays, including the Simchas Beis Hashoeva celebrations and other large events, in Crown Heights and other areas.
The NYPD has been out in force at Jewish houses of worship, Yeshivas, and Jewish events since before the Rosh Hashana holidays, and is continuing to provide extra security coverage throughout the month, as was detailed at the High Holiday security briefing with Mayor Eric Adams.
Hon. Commissioner of City-wide Community Safety Devorah Halberstam, NYPD Liaison to the Jewish community, addressed the High Holiday security briefing along with other leaders.
Earlier that week, NYPD Officials and Commanding Officers from Jewish neighborhoods throughout New York City gathered at an event to detail the security protocols that will be in place to protect the Jewish community during the month of Tishrei.
Chief Jeffrey Maddrey called for the briefing to take place in response to recent events around the world that have caused fear and concern in Jewish communities worldwide. It was hosted at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Crown Heights and organized by Devorah Halberstam.
The plans for security in the neighborhood were developed by the NYPD in collaboration with the Civilian Security Patrol, Brooklyn’s Chiefs of Patrol and the NYPD Counterterrorism Division.
Over 40 shuls and yeshivas in Crown Heights, especially 770 Eastern Parkway, Lubavitch World Headquarters, require steady coverage and monitoring throughout the month, during which tens of thousands visit from around the world. Teams of police officers have been out in force and will continue to be out during all holidays as well as special events such as Kaparos, Simchas Beis Hashoeva, and Tahalucha.
Also receiving extra coverage is the area in Cambria Heights, Queens, where the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch – the Rebbe’s gravesite, is located. The area also has ongoing police coverage over the Yomim Tovim for all the tens of thousands who visit throughout the month of Tishrei and the guests who sleep in the vicinity.
