Tom King might regret his incriminating lie to the police on Emmerdale, as the latest episode of the ITV soap saw Belle Dingle make a big decision that could land him in trouble

Emmerdale's Belle Dingle took action against Tom King on Tuesday night, as she reported him to the police after months of abuse.

It was the moment viewers had been waiting for after months of coercive control, manipulation, cruel mind games and violence. Things came to a head last week when he tried to kill her, resulting in her attacking him in self-defence.

Tom remained in hospital after she hit him in the back with an axe, almost killing him. As her family begged her to flee, she instead went to visit Tom after he vowed to report her unless she went to see him.

When she got there he wasted no time in playing games, warning her that if the truth came out no one would believe her that it was self-defence. Belle reasoned that she had a motive for her attack, but Tom taunted her over her past and her mental health and tried to convince her the only way was to do as he said.

He told her that if she dropped her allegations about him, after she told her family about the abuse, then he'd stay quiet. The pair appeared to come to a deal as Belle saw no way out of the situation, with her agreeing to his demands.

Tom kept up his side of the deal, not before requesting a kiss on the cheek from Belle. She was left horrified when he kissed her on the lips instead, and it seemed Belle realised in that moment things could not carry on.

Tom soon told the police that he was attacked by two men in the woods who were trying to rob him, not Belle. What he didn't see coming though was that at the very end of the episode, Belle reported Tom to the police, telling them that she is a victim of domestic abuse.

She took the axe to them as evidence and confirmed she had attacked her husband. She said: "I've attacked my husband, in self-defence, he wanted to kill me. I'm a victim of domestic abuse." Given Tom has just told a lie about the events to the police, will this be the moment they realise he's a liar, and that he'd harassed Belle?

It comes as Amelia Spencer actress Daisy Campbell told The Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards how she hoped her character would team up with Belle, to take Tom down. She said: "Oh I want her to team up with Belle! I'm reading the scripts and I'm like, 'Come on, you've got to pull through for Belle'. So hopefully we'll see some of that."
