Michael Jackson’s passing did little to hamper his popularity. The superstar never vanishes from charts in countries all around the world, and he remains incredibly popular. The boundary-breaking musician is still scoring hits to this day, and he even manages to soar to the top of special rankings from time to time.

The late, great Jackson’s “Thriller” brings him back to No. 1 on a Billboard chart. This week, the smash jumps from fourth place to the summit on the R&B Digital Song Sales tally, which ranks the bestselling R&B-only tracks in the U.S.

“Thriller” reached No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales ranking for the first time in 2012. Since then, the tune has risen and slipped every year, especially in the fall, occasionally finding its way back to the peak position.

Jackson’s single has become forever intertwined with Halloween, and “Thriller” jumps up the Billboard charts every October. The tune is featured on countless playlists for parties, and millions of people begin streaming—and buying—the cut once more, and it never seems to fail to become a huge win all over again.

As it reaches the highest rung on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, “Thriller” is also rising on several other tallies published by Billboard. This frame, the single appears on at least three lists in America, including one it returns to.

“Thriller” surges from No. 9 to No. 3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart this week. That tally focuses exclusively on purchases, but it features hip-hop and rap, as well as R&B.

The single also reappears on the Hot R&B Songs tally this frame. “Thriller” lands at No. 5 on the list, which ranks the most-consumed R&B tunes in the country. Popularity in this sense is measured in terms of streams, radio airplay, and, of course, sales.
