Harry Potter fans convinced 'beautiful' UK library is real-life Hogwarts

A beautiful library with outstanding architecture has got Harry Potter fans talking as they claim visiting is like 'passing through the walls of Hogwarts' – it's the perfect place for a day out this autumn

A stunning library has been hailed a must-visit for Potterheads thanks to its stunning architecture, which has been compared to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films.

As Halloween approaches, you might be looking for fun activities to get you into the spirit, and a gothic library could be the perfect spot for your spooky fix. People are obsessing over the beautiful John Rylands Library in Manchester and insist it is worth a visit.

To enter, walk through a series of spiked gates to the late-Victorian structure, home to some of the world's finest collections of rare books, manuscripts and archives. The library, which is part of the University of Manchester, has a beautiful reading room, breath-taking stained glass windows, grand statues, and jaw-dropping arches you can walk through before browsing the vast collection of books.

While it doesn't officially have any ties to Harry Potter, its Gothic architecture will make you feel like a real-life witch or wizard. "Potterhead, you're going to want to visit John Ryland's Library now spooky season is in full swing," Secret Manchester said in an I nstagram video where they shared a glimpse inside the impressive space.

The clip continued: "I think this might just be Manchester's very own Hogwarts. John Rylands Library opened back in 1900 and it just so happens to bear a striking resemblance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The video added that the library would make you feel as though you had been "transported to Hogwarts as soon as you step through the door."

"The gothic architecture is just incredible. It'll probably have you shopping for a robe or witch's hat the minute you leave," the video concluded.

People rushed to comment as one said: "It's an amazing place." "It's so beautiful and atmospheric," added another.

On TripAdvisor, one individual said: "Walking into the John Rylands Library felt like passing through the walls of Hogwarts itself. The towering arches, shadowy alcoves, and intricate stone carvings create an atmosphere so magical that it feels as though the books might come alive at any moment.

"For a book lover and Harry Potter fan, it’s a dream come true—the kind of place where you half expect to find enchanted texts hidden away on the towering shelves."

Another said: "For the potter fans, this place relates to the vibes of Hogwarts, especially the great reading room and the room of Albus Dumbledore. Strongly recommended to all."

"The architecture is absolutely stunning, giving it a cathedral-like atmosphere," added another.

The John Rylands Library is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm.
