Greggs have announced their latest surprising partnership - a champagne bar.

The North East-founded brand has paired up with another Newcastle upon Tyne institution, Fenwick, to launch the new venture.

It will pair the Greggs savoury menu of bakes and rolls with what is described as an "elevated selection of condiments and garnishes" and a curated list of Fenwick Food Hall champagnes.

Drinks will start at £10 glass of Ca di Alte Prosecco to a £75 glass of Louis Roederer Cristal – also available by the bottle for £425 for those looking to splash out.

The indulgent menu, specially created by Fenwick Executive Head Chef Mark Reid in collaboration with Greggs, will see the food-on-the-go retailer’s classic savoury menu served with a delicious range of contemporary and “in vogue” condiments.

Meals available will include the Greggs Steak Bake served with a creamy peppercorn aioli, the Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt paired with Bloody Mary ketchup and a Sausage Roll that comes alongside a hot honey chilli sauce.

The bar will also be offering a host of signature cocktails inspired by Greggs’ sweet menu, such as a “Yum Yum Twist”, a sweet, sugar-glazed cocktail crafted with rum and real Yum Yums and a “Cream Éclair” which features vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur.

The Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick will open from October 24 and run until New Year's Eve, and will be open daily from 11.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, with a 7pm finish on Thursdays and a 6pm finish on Sundays. It comes after last year's Bistro Greggs at Fenwick, which saw over 8,000 covers last December.

Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs said: “While Champagne and Greggs might not be the most immediate food and drink pairing, following the success and reaction to our Greggs Bistro last year, we're excited for the launch of the Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick. Hopefully everyone who visited us last year, and many more, will enjoy the fun and unique experience that’s been created and discover that a chilled glass of Champagne accompanied by a Sausage Roll will be the hottest ticket in Toon for 2024.”

Founded by John Gregg in Gosforth, Newcastle in 1939, the chain now has around 2,500 branches across the UK - more than McDonald's. Innovating, such as by partnering with Primark on a fashion range and tapping into the growing vegan market earlier than rivals, has helped the firm, with it recording sales of £1.81 billion for the year to December 30 2023 - up 16% on the year before.

It also has a host of celebrity fans, including Taylor Swift who hired the company to cater for the first two UK nights of her Eras tour in Edinburgh and Kiefer Sutherland who said he swears by a Greggs Sausage Roll.

Most recently, Greggs also brought out a sell-out range of gold jewellery, including Sausage Roll earrings and a charm bracelet featuring a Steak Bake, coffee cup and pizza slice among others, in partnership with British artist Dion Kitson.
