Lorraine Kelly 'burst into tears' at event as she remembered heartbreaking family loss

TV favourite Lorraine Kelly shared an emotionally charged moment outside of her usual presenting duties, revealing that she was moved to tears. At 64 years old, Lorraine launched the notable Change and Check campaign in 2019 following her producer Helen Addis's breast cancer diagnosis.

Over the past five years, as the initiative has grown, it has fostered a choir comprising women who have survived breast cancer or are currently undergoing treatment. Their latest endeavour involved performing a heartfelt version of Wet Wet Wet's "Love Is All Around," joined by Marti Pellow.

The Mirror's Notebook magazine reports Lorraine's emotional reaction, saying: "I burst into tears, as did so many people, because it was just so overwhelming.

"It was for the people that weren't there," she continued. "Very sadly, my grandmother Margaret died from breast cancer. It was long ago but you still remember it.

"There was an attitude and there was the fact that we were all doing it together. There was a real sisterhood and an awful lot of kindness and compassion in the room."

She elaborated on the significance of "Love Is All Around," stating: "This song is very special to me. It's like the soundtrack of everybody's life, isn't it? Thirty years ago, my Rosie was born and that was our song in many ways. It's a very special song so I had to be part of it."

Marti Pellow, reflecting on his involvement, considered his own motivations, remarking on the heightened awareness of cancer that can come with age.

"There isn't any family that hasn't been touched with that. Whether it's friends or family who have fought the disease or didn't make it through, you cannot fail to be touched by that."

Lorraine's experiences with the Change and Check Choir have also influenced how she feels about her granddaughter Billie. She said: "It's fantastic...The best thing in the world is just cuddling this wee, tiny, little precious thing."

"I would love her to grow up in a world where she didn't have to worry about breast cancer. That would be the best thing ever. Maybe in her lifetime, she's only one month old. The advances that are happening, the science is incredible."
