Amanda Holden had to issue an apology to her Heart FM colleague and listeners after a new addition to her family caused her to be tardy for work.

The 53 year old was absent at the start of her radio programme on Tuesday (September 17) morning, leaving Jason King to host solo. He informed listeners that Amanda was "currently in her taxi".

Jason, 49, is filling in for Jamie Theakston, who recently shared his diagnosis of stage one laryngeal cancer.

As he kicked off the show, Jason remarked: "A big shout out first of all to Amanda Holden who is currently in her taxi, I hope there is a sausage bap in there. I really hope so."

With Amanda running late, Jason, also known as JK, decided to give her a ring live on-air to check on her whereabouts. Amanda disclosed that it was a new furry family member that had delayed her.

She explained: "I got one of those little doggies with a heartbeat and a heat pad in for the puppy and she was so good, she was downstairs, literally didn't hear a squeak out of her.

"But all over the house we put on music to help your puppy sleep. I reckon all of us slept brilliantly. I completely recommend it.

"I reckon I didn't wake up because of the flipping puppy music. I'm shattered, I've never had such a good night's sleep in my life."

Amanda surmised that her alarm "probably" did go off but she inadvertently slept through it. JK responded: "I can't believe that you've had a lovely sleep and you've got a new puppy."

"You're supposed to have the most horrendous night's sleep ever. But it's totally the opposite."

Amanda, who is fostering a puppy from Battersea Dogs Home, said the little one has been "as good as gold". She initially told her husband Chris Hughes they were only fostering the pup, before suggesting they might keep her.

She joked that she was "fostering" the dog with a "very tiny f", adding: "It got through to Chris better to say we are fostering."
