ITV I'm A Celebrity bosses 'planning for emergency evacuations as flood hits camp'

I'm A Celebrity stars were almost evacuated from their camp after it was hit by floods.

Bosses reportedly drew up emergency plans to get the stars out of the jungle and into safety in the Bush Telegraph when the storm was wreaking havoc. According to sources, a part of the set was ripped up and roads to the site were flooded. Last night's trial also had to be pushed back by an hour.

Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly took to social media to share their journey into the camp over the weekend. They had to drive their car across a flooded road. Ant, 49, explained: "We all got texts this morning saying the rain is so bad you might not even make it in today."

Dec, also 49, then said: “It was an effort to get the show on air today. There were only a few people here.” According to sources, bosses were worried the storm, which had 114.5mm of rain falling in only 24 hours, could hit their satellite system as well as the coverage.

Speaking to The Sun, the insider said: "All the campmates are fine, but producers monitored them on Saturday night as the storm worsened. The crew were struggling to make it on site. At one point there was genuine concern about how much they would be able to film. Fortunately, it calmed down a bit and all was OK.”

An ITV spokesperson said of the situation: "We have contingency plans in place to cover all weather eventualities, the health and safety of our celebrities is an absolute priority."

Unpacked star Joel Dommett revealed that he and his co-stars Sam Thompson and Kemi Rodgers had also been warned about the weather and that the show sets could be inaccessible due to the weather. Ant and Dec then explained that parts of the set had been completely destroyed and that a planned trial was at risk of being abandoned due to the adverse weather.

Ant revealed: "[The trial] has been delayed because of the weather. So we will be here for a lot longer today." Dec added: "We just have to make sure that the trial that was scheduled is doable in the area that it was. Everything is a little up in the air here."

Joel then said: "People don’t understand that this show is more than what you see on tele. There is an entire infrastructure of stuff." And revealing some details of destruction, Ant went on: "Things have blown down in the night. There’s a tent out the back there where friends and family come and guests on the ITV2 show stay before they go on. And that’s all blown away. That’s all gone. It’s been pretty tough."
