Three children have been rushed to hospital after a woman was cut from her car following a horror crash. Mercy crews raced to Hoole Road in Wirral, Merseyside, at around 5pm yesterday.

Cops locked down the scene after finding a red Ford Fiesta containing two people had collided with a white Hyundai i10, which had four people inside, Liverpool ECHO reports.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called as a woman was trapped within the Hyundai following the smash. Crews had to cut the roof off the car to remove her.

She was then taken to hospital to be treated, alongside one child whose injuries were described as serious, and two other youngsters with minor injuries.

A 22-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

Hoole Road, Grasswood, Pemberton Road and Ferry Brow are all still closed following the smash. Cops probing the incident are carrying out CCTV investigations in the area and drivers have been urged to stay away.
