BBC Breakfast halted as Gregg Wallace breaks silence over misconduct claims
BBC Breakfast was interrupted on Sunday morning for a major breaking news update relating to MasterChef host Gregg Wallace
by Samantha King · The MirrorBBC Breakfast was abruptly interrupted this morning to deliver a significant breaking news update concerning MasterChef host Gregg Wallace.
The celebrity has been embroiled in historic misconduct allegations, which he vehemently denies, and today (December 1) he took to Instagram to address the accusations levelled against him.
BBC Breakfast presenters Ben Thompson and Luxmy Gopal paused their programme to provide viewers with the latest information.
"In the past hour, Gregg Wallace has posted two videos on his Instagram about the allegations made against him during his time on MasterChef, let's show you those videos now," said Luxmy, as the clips were brought up on-screen.
In the videos, Gregg is seen speaking directly into the camera from a cream-coloured room adorned with framed pictures, reports the Express.
In the first video, Gregg recalls reading about "13 complaints" lodged against him from a "handful of middle-class women of a certain age, just from Celebrity MasterChef", before stating: "This isn't right."
In the subsequent clip, he continues: "In over 20 years of television can you imagine how many women, female contestants on MasterChef, have made sexual remarks or sexual innuendo? Can you imagine?"
After the videos concluded, BBC Breakfast co-host Ben Thompson commented: "So there Gregg Wallace referring very much to MasterChef, but BBC news has also heard claims about Gregg Wallace's behaviour on other programmes that he worked on," before promising to bring viewers "any further developments as we get them".
The update comes just hours after Gregg shared a cryptic photo seemingly of a grey pavement, which had text over the top which read: 'We are all different'. The TV celeb's legal team has firmly stated: "It is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature."
Since 2005, Gregg has been at the helm of MasterChef, along with its popular offshoots, Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals. Production company Banijay UK has previously said it is "committed to fully co-operating" as an investigation into the allegations is carried out.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One
