Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attended the National Unity Day parade in Gujarat's Kevadia on 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' where he said that the government is working towards One Nation, One Election and Uniform Civil Code, which will become a reality soon. Soon after, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge responded to his remark, saying that it was "impossible" as the PM will have to take everybody into confidence in the parliament to make One Nation One Election happen.

"We are now working towards 'One Nation One Election', which will strengthen India's democracy, give the optimum outcome of India's resources and the country will gain new momentum in achieving the dream of a developed India. Today, India is moving towards 'One Nation One Civil Code', which is a secular civil code," he said.

The One Nation, One Election proposal aims to synchronise all elections in the country and to conduct them on a single day or within a specific time frame. The proposal was passed by the cabinet earlier this year and will now be presented before the Winter Session of Parliament later in the year. PM Modi reiterated that the bill will be cleared soon and will become a reality, which will in turn strengthen India's democracy.

On PM Modi's remarks on 'One Nation One Election', and Uniform Civil Code, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, said: "What PM Modi has said, he will not do it, because when it comes in the parliament, he has to take everybody into confidence then only this will happen. This is impossible, 'One Nation One Election' is impossible."

'Diwali Connecting India With Rest Of The World,' Says PM

The PM also paid floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 149th birth anniversary at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. This year, the event coincided with Diwali. "This time the National Unity Day has brought a wonderful coincidence. On one hand, today we are celebrating the festival of unity and on the other hand, it is also the festival of Deepawali," PM Modi said.

He further stated that Diwali not only "illuminates the country" but has also started connecting India with the rest of the world. His remark came after US President Joe Biden hosted a Diwali bash at the White House which was attended by over 600 eminent Indian Americans.

"Deepawali connects the whole country through lamps, illuminates the whole country and now the festival of Deepawali is also connecting India with the world. It is being celebrated as a national festival in many countries. I extend many best wishes of Deepawali to all the Indians living in the country and the world and the well-wishers of India," he said.

J&K Rejected Age-Old Agenda Of Terrorism: PM Modi

PM Modi also spoke about Jammu and Kashmir and how they rejected terrorism and separatism, making the Constitution and democracy of India victorious.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the age-old agenda of separatism and terrorism. They have made the Constitution of India, the democracy of India victorious. They have put an end to the propaganda going on for 70 years with their votes. Today, on National Unity Day, I salute the people of Jammu and Kashmir."

"In the last ten years, India has resolved many such issues which were a threat to national unity. Terrorists' 'masters' now know that harming India won't yield results, as India won't spare them." he added.

'Those Who Chant The Name Of Constitution Insulted It': PM Modi's Jibe At Oppn

PM Modi also took a jibe at the Congress for "insulting" the Constitution, claiming that it was not implemented for the past 70 years. He declared that "Article 370 has been buried forever" as he attributed the "wall of  Article 370 in J&K" as the reason behind the Constitution not being implemented in the country.

"Today the whole country is happy that after seven decades of independence, the resolution of one country and one constitution has been fulfilled. This is my biggest tribute to Sardar Saheb. For 70 years, Baba Saheb Ambedkar's Constitution was not implemented in the entire country. Those who chant the name of the Constitution have insulted it so much," he said.

"The reason was the wall of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 has been buried forever. For the first time, voting was done without discrimination in this assembly election. For the first time, the Chief Minister of that place has taken oath on the Constitution of India. This scene must have given immense satisfaction to the makers of the Indian Constitution, their souls must have found peace and this is our humble tribute to the makers of the Constitution," he added.

PM Modi urged Indians to celebrate the efforts being taken for unity and integrity with enthusiasm. He extended wishes for Diwali to all Indians in the country and around the world, and those who support India.
