A 20-year-old British man has died after being found at the bottom of a lift shaft while on a family holiday in Turkey.

Tyler Kerry, a labourer from Basildon in Essex, was found on Friday morning at the bottom of the lift shaft in the hotel he was staying at near Lara Beach in Antalya.

Mr Kerry was on his first family holiday abroad with his girlfriend Molly and grandparents Colette and Ray at the all-inclusive Trendy Lara resort hotel in Antalya when the incident took place.

The 20-year-old's uncle, Alex Price, said his nephew was found at 7am local time (4am GMT) and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said: "I got a phone call from my sister and she just said that Tyler had been found in the lift shaft at the hotel.

"An ambulance team were attending to him but unfortunately they weren't able to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

Mr Price said the family was "in the dark about what's happened" but were being supported by a consular official and a representative from holiday company TUI.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Kerry, who has been described as a "lovely young man".

His uncle Mr Price said: "He had a stable girlfriend and they were thinking about moving in together.

"They were very settled. He was quite a mature young man for his age, very compassionate and kind, caring towards his family members and his younger siblings."

Mr Price, who said the family is eager for a full investigation into the circumstances of his nephew's death, has since launched a GoFundMe to cover the unforeseen expenses of Mr Kerry's funeral and memorial service.

"Hi my name is Alex and I'm raising funds for my nephew Tyler who has suddenly passed away in tragic circumstances whilst on a family holiday in Antalya, Turkey," read a message shared on the fundraising page.

"He was just 20 years old. A young man full of personality, kindness and compassion with his whole life ahead of him. He was completely devoted to his family and girlfriend Molly.

"We are all absolutely devastated. Tyler had travel insurance which will hopefully cover the cost of bringing him home. We are asking for any donations towards the unforeseen costs of dealing with the consequences of such a tragic incident, particularly the inevitable costs of laying Tyler to rest and ensuring he has a fitting and respectful funeral/memorial.

"Any financial support at this difficult time will be gratefully received on behalf of the family. Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration."
