Nottingham Forest fined £750,000 after FA sought £1m sanction over VAR post

It was confirmed on Friday that Forest had been fined £750,000 for the post published in April

The Football Association wanted Nottingham Forest to be hit with a fine of over £1 million, condemning what it called an "egregious, direct and public attack" on VAR Stuart Attwell after a contentious social media post by the club.

It has been revealed that Forest had been dealt a £750,000 fine for their post in April, following a match against Everton where they claimed three penalties had been wrongly denied.

The FA argued that given the scale of the perceived attack on the integrity of a match official and the sport itself, a penalty exceeding or at least matching £1 million would be appropriate. In response to the sanction deemed "disproportionate" by the disciplinary panel, Forest announced their decision to appeal, while also receiving a warning about their future conduct.

A club statement read: "Nottingham Forest Football Club is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Regulatory Commission to impose a £750,000 fine in relation to comments posted on social media following our Premier League fixture against Everton on Sunday 21 April.

"We are particularly concerned that the FA, in its submissions, sought a sanction 'in excess of £1,000,000'. We believe that this request, along with the subsequent fine, is wholly disproportionate and the club will be appealing the decision."
